County Sligo is situated in the west of Ireland and belongs to the province of Connaught. The Irish name means "an area abounding in shells". It covers an area of 1,836 kmē and the county town is Sligo. The town houses the Institute of Technology and the megalithic cemetery landscape of Carrowmore is also located in Sligo. It is divided by the River Garavogue and the town is now a marketing centre as well as the largest town in Ireland's northwest.
County Sligo has a fine variety of mountains, lakes as well and limestone hills. It also offers sandy beaches and low cliffs, ideal for a family day on the sea. Visitors are able to choose between a range of activities, such as golfing, fishing, horse riding, tennis and a lot more.
